Editing your Business Profile can pause your ads. Read this before you touch it

Here's a quiet change that catches owners out. After the move into Google Ads, your business name, address, and standard hours come from your Google Business Profile. They sync one way, profile to Ads, and you can't edit them in Ads anymore.

Why does that matter?

A profile edit is now an ads edit. Change the name on your profile on a Tuesday morning in July, and you may have changed your advertising too.

What triggers a review?

A significant name or address change starts a verification review that runs 24 to 48 hours, and your campaign can sit paused while it happens. Routine updates, like a small hours tweak, usually sync within 24 hours with no drama.

How do I avoid pausing my own ads?

  • Never edit your profile mid week during busy season.
  • Batch changes into one edit, so you face one review window instead of three.
  • Make big changes early in a slow week, and check the campaign the next morning.
  • Keep routing phone number edits inside Google Ads, where they stay instant.
  • Tell whoever manages your profile that these edits now touch your ad spend.

What if my ads are already paused?

Wait out the 24 to 48 hours before changing anything else, because a second edit can restart the clock. While you wait, check that your callouts are still complete, which is covered in the callouts and Target CPA post.
